Updates:

Delaware County Historical Society (DCHS) hosted our first open house of 2025 on February 1st. The open house celebrated Black History Month with a curated display of items highlighting the Great Migration of the early 20th century. Artifacts on display celebrated Black Delco historic figures such as Ruth L. Bennett, the first president of the NAACP chapter of Chester and an advocate for Black women coming from the south to the north seeking new opportunities. Displays also featured pieces on Ethel Waters, Sleighton Farms, Emlen Tunnell, and more! Our thanks to Ms. Twyla Simpkins of the YES Center in Chester for loaning DCHS the Ruth L. Bennett pieces for display.

First Annual Delco Historic Conference Was a Success!

On Saturday March 1st, DCHS hosted the first annual Delco Historic Conference at the Willows Mansion in Radnor. The event featured local historic groups and historians from the Delaware Valley area coming together to discuss how they can work together to better protect and promote local history. The event featured four presentations from local Delco historic groups, and DCHS would like to thank the members and staff of the Radnor Historical Society, YES Center of Chester, and Middletown Historical Society for presenting. DCHS would also like to extend our thanks to the Willows Park & Preserve for having us, and thanks to all those who attended! DCHS will host our next conference in 2026, and if you or your historic group would be interested in attending or presenting, please email outreach@padelcohistory.org to be added to our list.
